What's new at the Western Canadian Ski Resorts

New lifts, cats, movies and brews

What we really want is snow. And lots of it. But the resort's can't just offer snow. They need to up the game every year. More lifts, more runs and more fun with anniversary giveaways. Check out what's new at a few of Western Canada's favourite winter resorts.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is going to be the only Freeride World Tour stop in Canada. February 3rd - 9th the best of the best will be rippin' down “The Horse.” Forty-five riders in four categories – ski men, ski women, snowboard men, and snowboard women will make the five-stop international journey with Golden BC on the list. All riders will face a round of qualification cuts after the fourth stop in Fieberbrunn, Austria before arriving at the grand finale in Verbier, Switzerland in March/April 2018. Since none of us will be on the list of competitors, we can enjoy the new brew at the top of the mountain. Head up to Eagle’s Eye to put down a pint of their very own brew. That's right! Give Kicking Horse Ale a try.

Castle Mountain

Castle Mountain Resort in the southwest corner of Alberta had some scary moments this summer with all the forest fires sweeping through the area blocking access to the resort. But, the crews were out in early October doing the best they could to sweep and dust. Yea, they do that with chainsaws. Expect to enjoy the fruits of their labour on OK Corral and the Enchanted Forest. The Powder Stagecoach will be heading into the secret stash in glades only accessed by the rolling beast again this season. If you have yet to experience the adventure, this is the year to do it.

The crews at Fernie Alpine Resort never sleep. While we were busy on the links, paddling and cycling the crews were busy working on the popular runs. Morning Glory, Steep & Deep and Tuck out were cleaned out of snow snakes and those little twigs that also launch you into yard-sale tumbles. While the crews did the brushing, the Whitepass chairlift got a new gearbox so you will be able access the powder stashes in Timber & Currie Bowls via a smooth ride. And, you will be happy to know there are two new cats prowling the trails to make sure the runs are groomed to purr-fection.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is sooo fashion forward. Corduroy is sooo this season. Yep. They have sunk the bucks into new PRINOTH snow cats to groom your favourite trails. Best part about the new groomers are they are fuel efficient and less stinky. Along with the corduroy on the slopes, the lifts got a lift too. Revelation Gondola will have 24 new cabins and 21 chairs will be added to The Stoke chairlift, increasing the lift capacity by 25%.

Coming November 7th is MAGNETIC-  the movie filmed entirely at Whistler Blackcomb. Just the trailer gets your blood pumping. Check it out here.
