A timeless log lodge and matching nearby cabins adorn the base of Troll Resort. The authenticity of a uncommercialized ski resort and its romantic vibe is what drew us in.
Warm hellos are sent our way from friendly locals as are smells of freshly baked cinnamon buns and brewing coffee. It’s evident that Troll has a loyal fan base and these close-knit people are friends who consider each other family.
Hildur the owner/manager of the resort welcomes children, colleagues and even us newbies with a warm embrace. Clearly, her standard of family feels set a precedence for the loyal Trollers to follow. An excited atmosphere for the place swirled around us as kids and parents prepped for a day on the slopes. We couldn’t wait to gear up and see what the day would hold for us.
After a day exploring as many nooks and crannies of Troll Resort as possible, it’s easy to say this a gem of a ski resort. As a crew, we all had our favourite parts, and here’s a collection of the top five reasons why we absolutely loved skiing at Troll.

Family-friendly
Troll offers full ski school amenities for kids of all ages. From learning to link turns to joining a race club, the younger crowd has plenty of options for formal ski learning opportunities. As a family, you’ll enjoy skiing Astrid’s Alley – a perfect cruisey run that banks down and around the mountain showing off a variety of valley views along the way. The side hits and meandering trails nearby offer a slice of adventure for anyone craving it.

Wildcat Glades
Perfect pitch, perfect spacing, need I say more?! The newly gladed Wildcat area on the mountain is not to be missed. This powder haven has the best tree skiing in the area. A long lap through Wildcat will surely wake up your powder-day legs and simultaneously beg you to do it again.
Coffee vibes
It often seems that to have epic skiing you must forgo fancy coffee, but not at Troll. Coffee vibes are in full force here with a long list of caffeine-induced concoctions and a tempting window filled with fresh-baked cupcakes and cinnamon buns.
Location, location, location
It’s seriously important to be in an incredible spot when skiing is a priority – and Troll has got a few great things going on in that department. The closest airport is under two hours away in Prince George. Tons of accommodation options are available in Quesnel, B.C., just a short jaunt up the road. For the history buffs, or on your day off of skiing, the historic Gold Rush towns of Wells and Barkerville are just down the road. It’s important to note that Troll is in a sweet spot when it comes to snow. Even if it’s a rough snow year, Troll always manages to have a fresh coat of white.

Variety
We’ve noted the family fun opportunities and the gladed tree skiing, but there’s more. Steep groomers, a large mellow sloped learning area and even a race course are all worth mentioning. Backcountry enthusiasts can reap the benefits of tree skiing accessed via a T-bar too. Regardless of your ability or objectives, there’s literally something for everyone here.
An added bonus is the seriously cozy lodge. There's are crackling wood fireplaces, comfortable couches, a large toy box for the kids and even a piano to mess around on. Troll will make you want to call its day lodge your home.
