Mountaineer Lodge lets you do après before ski day
This story is brought to you by Mountaineer Lodge.
Check out what's new at the lodge and what to do while you're in the area.
Get a jump on your summer tan on the deck of the Kokanee Kabin. In the coming weeks, there will be music by some of your favourite local DJs. |
JOANNE ELVES
LAKE LOUISE, AB - Days are getting longer and the grass may yet get green, but don’t let spring cleaning get in the way of your weekend fun. Now is possibly some of the best skiing of the season.
Not only is the snow great, so are the activities. All the ski resorts are cranking up the après ski events. Check the SnowSeekers.ca “Closing Dates” listing of all the happenings or the last day of skiing.
Party? what party?
I had the pleasure of skiing last weekend with the party planners at Lake Louise Ski Resort. They’ve been prepping for the next six weeks all winter. Every Saturday and Sunday from now until the end of the season (last day at Lake Louise is May 5), the resort will offer something for everyone.
Among the fun on-slope events are a cardboard box derby, club races, snowboard competitions for the monster energy crowd and dinners at the mid-mountain Whitehorn Lodge, followed by a twilight torchlight ski to the base.
Or head to the place to work on your spring tan - the Kokanee Kabin Deck. While you’re soaking up some Vitamin D, you can listen to live music and DJs spin almost all day. Local radio stations will bring out their popular morning radio hosts to crank out the tunes. Enjoy a burger on the deck, catch some rays and relax among like-minded friends.
Check to see the complete listing, but expect to find radio hosts from Country 105, Amp Radio, CJAY, Virgin, Q107 and X92.9.
Sunny Tube Park is officially spinning
The Sunny Tube Park is a new addition to Lake Louise this spring. |
Take my advice on this one. Don’t tell the tube park attendant that you want to spin. I’m sure my brain is still stuck to one side of my skull. Other than that, let ‘er rip! Two lanes are groomed for smooth sliding as you race your friends to the base of the rolling course. It’s nuts but it’s fun. The beginner carpet lift will take you back to the top to do it again. Tickets can be purchased for just the tube park or, if you want to throw in some rides after your day on the slopes, a discounted rate is applied.
Go for the weekend or just the fun
Two days of skiing might be too much guilt, so why not try this idea. Get your chores done early on Saturday morning. Toss the mop then pack a bag and head to The Mountaineer Lodge. Jump on the free shuttle bus offered by Lake Louise Ski Resort to party the afternoon and early evening away. That way you can enjoy the après ski - pre ski. The shuttle will bring you back after the party ends. Even though The Mountaineer is only a five-minute drive away, you’ll still want to play and party responsibly.
Sunday morning, be the first one waiting to get first tracks, ski the entire day and then head to the city without feeling like you missed the après ski.
Mountaineer Lodge in Lake Louise makes an ideal base for skiing at Lake Louise. It's just five minutes from the resort and is offering $50 off stays until the end of April. |
Mountaineer Lodge coupon
Stay at Mountaineer Lodge any day until April 30, 2013 and receive a $50 coupon to use for a future visit in Lake Louise, or at its Jasper property, The Mount Robson Inn. The coupon is good until April 30, 2014.
This is the first winter the Mountaineer Lodge has stayed open for a long time. Judging by how busy it’s been this season, it’s proving to be a desired destination for families, ski teams and budget-conscious travellers. Most rooms have a microwave and mini fridge, and all rooms offer high-speed Internet. A breakfast room offering free breakfast should be ready soon. My favourite room is #215. It’s spacious for the family and has huge windows on two sides to let in that spectacular view. The hot tub and steam room are popular after a day on the slopes - or the Kokanee Kabin deck.
