Resort still just one snowfall away from a memorable start

CALGARY, AB – Sunshine Village has revised its projected open date to Thursday, Nov. 17.
Nov. 14 edit: This date is now final, and confirmed.
“We have the cold temperatures and snow is sticking,” says Doug Firby, Director of Communications for Alberta’s most popular ski and snowboard resort. “We just need one more good snowfall so that we can guarantee our guests the kind of opening they expect from Sunshine.”
Sunshine is world famous for its legendary all-natural champagne powder snow, unlike the man-made snow that some ski resorts have to rely on, especially early in the season. Sunshine has received awards for its unique snow farming technique, which uses 35 km of snow fencing to capture the snow on the resort’s three big mountains.
Sunshine expects to open with four lifts: the Strawberry Express high-speed quad, WaWa, Jackrabbit and Wolverine. Reduced prices for opening day will be in effect.
Sunshine’s runs currently have a snowpack of 48 cm. With temperatures staying comfortably below freezing, every flake of snow that falls in the coming days is sure to stay.
Forecasters are predicting back-to-back heavy snow years, thanks to the lingering La Nina weather effect.
