SUN PEAKS, B.C. — When Nancy Greene and Al Raine decided to open Cahilty Lodge at Sun Peaks more than 15 years ago, they were certain about three things: it would be a lodge, rather than a hotel, it would be family-based, and, above all else, it would emphasize comfort.
Canada's second largest resort is calling your name. Plan your winter vacation today!
"Both Nancy and Al are still directly involved with the Lodge," said John Douglas, Cahilty's general manager. "They supply meet and greets, Nancy skis with the guests, and Al provides a daily snow and grooming report for us."
Of their three initial certainties, Al and Nancy have more than delivered on them all. The Lodge maintains a comfortable, quaint feel, even with its nearly 200 rooms, and there isn't an aspect of this place that doesn't say "family."
Self-catered
"The majority of our rooms are self-catered. They contain a kitchen with a fry pan, crock pot, and a toaster. There's lots of sleeping area. We're pretty much lights-out by 11 every night. Very low key. But the key thing is how hands-on and friendly our staff is. We really do anything we can to make your stay comfortable. We try our best to give each guest a very personal experience."
The Lodge offers all the amenities you need for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. The list includes a sauna room with three infrared personal saunas, two large hot tubs (one outdoors and one indoors), a business centre, free wi-fi, a well-equipped fitness room, slope-side secure ski storage, a daily newspaper, laundry facilities, heated underground parking, and an ATM machine.
Location key
"But the best thing we offer is our location," Douglas said. "For families, the Lodge is really the best location on the resort. It's far enough way from the clubs and the noise, but still really close to the mountain. The Cahility Lodge is probably the best value, price-wise, in the village."
Every Sunday, at 5:30, Nancy conducts an orientation seminar for all Cahilty guests, where she welcomes them to the Lodge and lets them know about all the great opportunities that exist at Sun Peaks.

As a first time Sun Peaks guest, this was a great help for me. I was amazed at the wealth of activities available, and saddened by the fact that I'd only be spending two days here. A person could easily spend a week and never do the same thing twice.
Great intuition
When Al and Nancy initially opened the Cahilty, Sun Peaks was still in its early stages. The couple was sold on the resort's potential, rather than its popularity. Now, more than 15 years later, Sun Peaks is home to the second largest ski terrain in British Columbia.
"They saw something in Sun Peaks that a lot of other people didn't," Douglas said.
After our stay at the Cahilty – and Sun Peaks – I can understand the couple's enthusiasm. For a fun, family-friendly (and busy!) adventure, Sun Peaks is where it's at.
