WHISTLER, BC — With its unique pedestrian village filled to the brim with accommodation, restaurant, nightlife and shopping options, Whistler/Blackcomb truly does give you a European feel along the west coast of Canada. It’s a feeling that I have enjoyed while visiting Chamonix, France and Zermatt, Switzerland – a place that is abuzz with hopping patios and endless options for fuelling up on sleep or eats for another epic day on the slopes.
Plenty of options
Whistler features over 5,000 beds to call home, with a wide range of accommodation options including B&Bs, condo rentals, hotels and hostels.
One of the many places I have enjoyed is the Delta Whistler Village Suites, which is located in the heart the village. This is a full-suite hotel and all rooms include a kitchenette, making for a great base camp and a place to make a bowl of cereal in the morning. Delta’s hospitality is always top notch, with friendly staff who are ready to provide you with all the “local’s secrets” on the best attractions Whistler has to offer.
Home to the Wellness Spa, it provides a little getaway within the getaway, for maybe a massage to get you loose and limber for big day of skiing. Almost all of the rooms at the Delta feature spectacular views of the surrounding peaks, some of which will offer up the chance to pick out your lines for the next morning.
The best burger in town
The hotel is also steps away from one of my favourite burger joints in Canada, Split’s Grill, one of the locals best kept secrets. These are the biggest, baddest burgers you’ll ever lay into, made fresh before your eyes and with over 40 condiment options to load up on.

Try the lamb burger or go for the anything-but-traditional bacon cheeseburger, which I’ll bet you will have trouble getting your mouth around. Split’s is also a great spot for a late night treat; they put together some top-notch banana splits.
Back to base camp ideas, another top pick for me is The Westin Resort & Spa. Located right next to the Whistler and Blackcomb Gondolas in the village, you cannot beat its location, and the outdoor pool and hot tubs are not to difficult to take either. It's award-winning Aubergine Grille is a top notch restaurant with an impressive wine list that will satisfy any connoisseur.
Away from the crowds
A stay at the Fairmont’s Chateau Whistler is not going to steer you wrong either. It is located at the base of Blackcomb and is an oasis that is truly its own. The Chateau is one of those signature accommodation options, because it is squirrelled away from the village but still offers great shopping, restaurant and dining options.
I am a huge fan of its massive outdoor pool (serviced by a very friendly bar staff), the eucalyptus steam room and the Mallard Duck Lounge, with live music and oversized couches and chairs to lounge in.
