Mid-Season Snow Forecast Update 2021-22

With about three months of skiing left in Western Canada, we are in the midst of an amazing, snow-filled season and there is still lots of great snow to come before the season ends.

Forget spring fever, we have the ski fever and it is a mean case! Thankfully mother nature has just the cure with some snow in the forecast according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

Here’s the big picture: we have had a trend of cold snaps followed by large powder dumps and it looks like we have at least one or two more in the forecast before the season ends so expect more snow.

Mid-season Snow Forecast Update for Feb-Apr, 2022

British Columbia

While we were expecting some good holiday and spring skiing, we were happily wrong about a lighter snowfall season as December-January delivered some incredible power days! With a projected continuation of the La Nina effect, the Pacific Northwest is likely going to continue to see mild cold with continuous light snow for the remainder of the season with a few big dumps across the west to send off the 2021/2022 season.

Forecast summary

Snow and snow flurries throughout February into mid March topped off with sunny weather expected consistently throughout the spring ski season. Since the Farmer's Almanac report encompasses the entire prairies region, which includes the drier areas of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, it's not as easy to draw a bead on the Rockies. Forecasted precipitation amounts below may be less accurate for the Rockies region. Our Snow Conditions reports will have the most updated, reliable info.

February
temperature: ranging from -5 to +6C
precipitation*: 15mm (average)

March
temperature: -2 to +2C average
precipitation*: 10mm (10mm below average)

*Note precipitation is measured differently than snowfall.

Eastern Canada

We expected Eastern Canada to be the hot spot for skiing this season, but while the coastal provinces have kept a fair bit of snow on their mountains, Western Quebec through Southern Ontario have dominated the east in terms of snow.

There is no signs of snow slowing down in these snow packed parts of Eastern Canada with plenty of snowfall in the forecast in early February.

Snow in the western parts of Ontario into March and the east will see snow in late February and mid March.

February
temperature: ranging from -4 to +1C
precipitation*: 90mm (30mm above average)

March
temperature: +3C average
precipitation*: 85mm (30mm above average)

*Note precipitation is measured differently than snowfall.

STAY IN THE SNOW

Some places may be expecting warmer weather or heavier snow, but it looks like across Canada we still have some good skiing before the weather warms up. If the snow continues as forecasted, we can expect some warm snow days on the tail end of the season which means you can enjoy your mountains without worrying about bundling up too much.
