Love snow? You must go to Powder King

Having arrived in the dark, it was a treat to wake up in the morning and see exactly how much snow we were surrounded by. Gaining an hour with time-change, we were up too early and decided to travel down to Azouetta Lake Café that offered a great breakfast and wifi.

Even though it was Friday and the days leading up the resort saw an additional 28cm of new snow, the promise was true and there was a 0-second lift line. Before we knew it we found ourselves knee deep in powder! From snowy drops, to towering treed runs every turn was full of more untouched snow. We quickly discovered that this pristine wilderness was a well hidden gem and couldn’t believe this was our first time visiting in winter.

By noon our legs were demanding a break from pushing through the deep pockets of snow so we headed for the base. The day lodge has all the ammenities one needs to re-feed and re-fuel for conquering the afternoon’s snowy runs and is definitely the spot to return to for après.

The snow was immense and comparable to what you’d find heli-ski/snow-cat snow conditions… but at the cost of a lift-ticket! It was remarkable, even the locals and life-long PK lovers who live on the mountain or come out often in the winter shared comments with us how this has been one of the best winters yet! Best part being that there is still plenty of season still left to enjoying it.

For our second day, I decided to work on my skiing skills. Having only learnt to snowboard in the past 10 years, I have taken on the challenge of a new activity of downhill skiing & touring. This would chalk up to my third day ever on these two sticks, and I must give credit to the amazing design of Powder King Resort! Having enjoyed the epic powder the previous day on a variety of blue and black runs, I really got to experience how this resort is even friendly for beginners with its gentle groomed slopes that are ideal for new skiers & snowboarders to build confidence and still get to reach each corner of the resort.

By the end of our second day, we were treated to blue-bird conditions as we wrapped up our stay. As we were driving away, we knew that PK resort was now going to be an annual addition to where we would want to escape to each winter. This unique resort offers a very wallet-friendly lift-pass & hostel option for accommodations, paired with no lift lines and plenty of untouched powder for everyone – we nearly didn’t want to share our story of Powder King.
