JASPER, ALTA. — Whether you are heading to Jasper for a weekend of skiing and riding at Marmot Basin, or a week or more with the intentions of exploring all the outdoor adventures that Jasper National Park has to offer, there are plenty of accommodation options to chose from.
Hotels range from pure luxury to family-friendly like the Lobstick Lodge located on Geikie Street.
Part of the Mountain Park Lodges Group, the Lobstick is within walking distance from downtown Jasper and boasts 139 rooms including 43 kitchen suites, which makes it ideal for families and groups.
Originally built in 1968, the hotel has and continues to do renovations, including a complete gut and rebuild of its pool.
No worries
The weekend I was there, the hotel was full of families and corporate groups and my arrival time coincided with those who had just returned from spending the day skiing at Marmot Basin.

The hallways were full of adults and kids heading to the pool or one of the four hot tubs, and I must admit that I had some reservations about the noise level. Especially when I noticed that the Skyline Lounge, located just down the hall from my room, had been booked for a private function.
But my worries were for nothing. My room was spacious and inviting, and once I shut the door, the sounds coming from the hallways all but disappeared. By the time I went to bed, it was dead quiet.
I don't normally sleep well the first night in a hotel, but the Lobstick's comfortable beds and luxurious pillows provided me the best possible sleep.
The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming and were quick to look after whatever I needed, a refreshing change from some places I have stayed.
Plenty of on-site amenities
The Lobstick offers a number of amenities, including wireless high speed internet, laundry facilities, same-day dry cleaning, a fitness centre, wheelchair access and is pet-friendly.
Dining options include the Country Inn which is open for breakfast and dinner, Season's Cafe offering breakfast baked goods, soups and sandwiches, and the Skyline Lounge.
Along with a full bar, the Skyline has an excellent wine list and offers light snacks and a full dinner menu. Featuring a fireplace and and spectacular views of the mountain ranges that surround the townsite, the Skyline is a great place for a little apres skiing.
Another one of the unique Jasper offerings are private home accommodations. These options can range from basic sleeping quarters (definitely affordable) to full-on suites and Bed & Breakfast-style accommodations, and all are inspected and licensed by the Municipality of Jasper.
With the Jasper in January Festival running until Jan. 31, you can count on some excellent winter accommodation packages.
