Last days of the season celebrated with style

SNOWSEEKERS

It’s so hard to talk about the closing dates of the mountain resorts when the snow keeps falling. This has got to be one of the best pow day seasons on the record books. The average snowfall year-to-date was smashed at many resorts.

But alas, all good things come to an end. Grab a hankie and get ready to sob as we list the last day at your favourite Western Canadian resorts.

Stay up to date with your favourite resort. See conditions here.

British Columbia

Whistler Blackcomb

While Whistler Mountain will pack it in for the season on April 22, you can count on Blackcomb Mountain to keep the lifts spinning until May 21.

Mount Washington Alpine Resort

Get your snorkel ready for the last day at Mount Washington. The last day at the Vancouver Island resort is April 8 and celebrates the annual Slush Cup. Keep that snorkel handy for April 29 when the Royal LePage Snow to Surf happens.

SilverStar Mountain Resort

SilverStar will host its annual Slush Cup on Saturday, April 7, Sunday, April 8 is the last day of skiing and the annual Retro Day.

Big White Ski Resort

Big White is turning off the lifts at the end of the day on April 8. It’s a big day with a DJ on the deck, a big barbecue and prizes for best costumes. And yes, the Slush Cup returns for the final day, too.

Baldy Mountain Resort

Baldy is still getting the snow but it’s time to start talking about wine in the valley. The last day of operations is April 1.

Fernie Alpine Resort

Fernie never leaves the season without a big bang. Mark the calendar for Fernival, April 14- 15. Music, events, parties, races, and of course, the Slope Soaker get underway. Sloan will be the headline band on Saturday, April 14 at the free outdoor concert. If you have never seen the cover band BCDC, Sunday they shut down the slopes with their killer renditions of ACDC tunes. (Trust us, they are great!)

Kimberley Mountain Resort

Bring your friends or bring your dummies or both! To celebrate the last day of skiing April 8, Kimberley is hosting its annual Dummy Downhill. Find out the Dummy Downhill rules here and don’t forget – friends of dummies don’t use propellants or explosives. There will also be live music, beer gardens and kids' zones.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

Kicking Horse never goes out without a bucking good time. Plan to get the last of the spring skiing in on April 14 and 15. The Dummy Downhill is on Saturday and the Slush Cup & Pig Roast follows on Sunday.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Revelstoke gives back to the community with Local’s Day on April 8. Bring proof of residency to get 10-10-10. Ten bucks for a lift ticket, a rental package, and a lesson. How cool is that? The rest of us will have to just dream of being a local for the remainder of the season. The last day of of skiing is April 15.

Red Mountain

Red Mountain is leaving the unforgettable winter behind on April 2. That’s a Monday so book off sick that day. Don’t forget to dress in retro ski gear for the Retro Day & Deck Party. Best Dressed (or is that worst dressed?) wins swag.

Sun Peaks

Another banner season of winter bliss ends April 15 at Sun Peaks. But the week before that from April 5 to 9  is the Coors Light Snowbombing Canada event. Great music and events including Chairlift Speed Dating! Better check it out.

Marmot Basin

The last day on the slopes at Marmot Basin Jasper National Park is April 21, and it will be a blast. Get out the ukulele, hula skirt, the coconut bras, it's time once again for the Aloha Cup at Marmot.

Banff Sunshine

Sunshine always hangs onto the season longer than any other ski resort and this year is no different. The fun in the sun continues until May 21 when they have the annual Slush Cup. This is the 90th year of the slush! But don’t wait until the last weekend – there are events to keep the party going all the way to the end. Check it out here.

Norquay

You’ve got one more chance to get in on a Toonie Day at Norquay. April 11, the last day to score a great deal because April 15 weekend is when they shut it down…well, for seven days a week that is. Maybe they’ll keep it open on a reduced schedule for a few more weeks. If it keeps snowing – there is hope. Check out the calendar for the Bozo Cup and the Canadian Cowboy Race.

Lake Louise Ski Resort

Lake Louise is basking in the spring skiing conditions and won’t shut down until May 6. That gives you plenty of time to go for ski and goggle tan. The Cardboard Box Downhill Derby is April 22, The Shake the Lake is April 28 and the final weekend there's tons of music planned. Check the events calendar for the Lake; there is tons of stuff to do.

Castle Mountain

Every Saturday until the end of the season tap your toes with live music during the Beats in the Base at Castle Mountain. Make sure you bring the family for the March 31 weekend. The Easter Bunny plans to make an appearance as will crazy people participating in the Spring Fest festivities. Got a cardboard box? Bring it for the Carboard Canoe race. Got a swimsuit? Bring it for the Slush Pit. The last weekend of the season is April 7 to 8. Come for the Spring Sting rail jam. Get all the details from the Castle Events Calendar.
