Jasper wildfire recovery: help Jasper, help yourself, with three simple steps

The Jasper wildfire pictures hit you in the heart, didn't they? Those of us who know, score a special feeling when we even hear the word "Jasper."

Images of snowy white peaks for as far as the eye can see, standing on top of the world after taking that hike to the summit to look out at the Tonquin Valley and across the Canadian Rockies? Awe and wonder.

But then those pictures in July hit us with utter awe at the tragedy.

When I saw those pictures, I also saw a picture of Marmot Basin in my mind, left wondering "what happened to the ski hill?"

Within the week of the night of the fires, Marmot Basin confirmed a 2024/25 operating season.

The suspense to know what happened to Marmot was killing me, but now the suspense turns instantly into another fact—that they should be open in less than 100 days (as of July 31, based on a Nov 8 traditional opening day).

I know if you are like me, you might be thinking of how to help Jasper and what can YOU do to support their recovery?

Well I've got a few ways to support Jasper right now.

1. Buy your Marmot Basin pass for the season, right now, right here

My number one fave, buy a Marmot Basin season pass here and commit to being in Jasper this winter, while helping yourself by committing to a healthy and active winter in one of North America's raddest ski towns.

Skiing the upper section of the mountain often delivers classic Rockies pow.

If you've been following SnowSeekers long enough, you've seen this fact here before - #dyk Jasper is one of the only five places on earth where McDonald's had to shut it doors? Bankrupt and kicked out of town, as the locals support their own and unique food options around town show it.

2. Welcome some new friends into your life

Be a community champion: if you have the space, open your homes to those now without. Build community through homestays, long term rentals, and hosting fundraising events.

If you have a rental unit that opens up this September, consider offering up your space. Or perhaps you want to billet internationals who are now out to sea without a paddle, after losing both their home and their jobs.

The community foundation below who makes our number three option to help out, will take those housing opportunities and make them known.

The Jasper street party is a staple of Jasper in January, a two-week community celebration that will welcome the Funk Hunters in 2025.

For fundraiser inspiration, check out our guys at the Funk Hunters, who hosted an online DJ stream raising over $9,100 towards supporting those effected.

While we are at it—nudge nudge wink wink to all the Jasper loyals reading this—get the hype train into overdrive to bring back the Funk Hunters this January for JinJ! (2020 was off the charts and it's about time they are back)?!

Save the date, add Jasper In January 2025 to your calendar now and show your love for Jasper this winter. The festival is slated for Jan 17 - Feb 2, 2025.

3. Finally, consider a donation in a friend or family member's name through the Jasper Fire: Caring Community Fund

Join SnowSeekers in supporting the Jasper Fire Caring Community Fund, which directs 100% of all donations right through to those affected. Jasper is not out, and your investment in them now, means our future time on their slopes and apres'ing in their hospitality, is back in fine form for this winter and beyond.

Let's go! As my friend 90 Degrees (Megs Arn) would always say "Get your Assper to Jasper!!!"

When you go

Tourism Jasper is the go-to for Jasper accommodations updates and will be updating their site as hoteliers confirm their operating situation for this coming winter. But know there will be hotels open and restaurants to feed you.

Getting a season's pass means you get to be here, with views that put you into some serious winter awe…
