CALGARY, AB – The Great Divide Lift is to open at 9 am today, bringing Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort close to full opening.
The latest opening means 11 of Sunshine’s 12 lifts will be operating. “Conditions are fantastic,” said John Scurfield, Senior Vice-President of Resort Operations, Marketing and Sales. "Skiers and riders are going love what they find when they get here."
With the Great Divide opening, skiers and riders can now enjoy Canada’s Best Snow right from the top of Lookout Mountain. Seven quad chairs, the high-speed, eight-passenger gondola and two magic carpets are all operating.
All that remains
The only remaining lift to open is Goat’s Eye, and Sunshine officials say that with a snow pack of more than one metre, an announcement could come soon.
Mountain Manager Al Matheson, who oversees safety and ski patrol, notes that early conditions still exist. Skiers and riders are advised to be on the lookout for unmarked natural hazards.
Weather forecasters say the enduring La Niña effect will deliver yet another season of deep powder to Sunshine Village.
Some experts predict this season will bring the same cold temperatures and, more importantly, lots of the white stuff to the ski and snowboard resort in Banff National Park.
