First day euphoria kicks in skiing Alberta Rockies powder at Lake Louise
By far with 25 seasons under my belt of “full time shredding,” a Saturday first day of the season quickly time-warped into a Monday afternoon and compressed three days into one in the best season opener run EVER.
Like many of Alberta’s ski resorts, Lake Louise saw a HUGE score of POW that’s come with this latest system out of the west.
Here’s a taste from the past few days… starting Saturday, Nov 27 through Monday Nov 29. (And it's only gotten better since!)
One week of insane POW in the Rockies
A whopping 116cm (and counting at time of publishing Dec 2) hit the upper part of the mountain in the past seven days, with 75 per cent of that in the past four days.
My first day was Saturday, by Monday around 40 cms had graced the slopes.
Men's World Cup races bumped by snow!
They had to cancel the Men’s Downhill Race Friday, and Sunday’s GS race saw the same outcome…the reason? Too much pow! (Shout out to Austria's Matthias Mayer who won the men's ski race series season opener on Saturday – Women’s Lake Louise Downhill runs this coming Dec 3 - 5, 2021).
Scoring powder turns off the new Summit Chair at Lake Louise
Six runs off the lake’s new Summit chair Monday were time in the white room. Summit Chair is home to one of Canada’s top winter hikes, to get to the run Brown Cow, off Boomerang on the Lake’s backside.

So much light, fluffy and perfect pow had kicked up on the turns, that I had to stop to let the snow settle (both from my eyes and from my lungs) so I could keep charging. Time in the white room can take your sight and your breath away!
By Monday, post-40 cms of that white fluffy gold, the day started with snowboarding through powder field after untouched powder field, which has to rank as one of the world’s top experiences available on our planet. That feeling of floating while experiencing the Canadian Rockies right close, by now the perma grin had really set in.

End of the day Monday taking in the day over a beer and nachos at the PowderKeg Pub at the Louise base, I was enjoy that same feeling of having been heli or cat skiing.
If this is going to be the start – what’s coming next?
