Edge Control offers tune-ups, overnight repairs, sales, and rentals. Satisfy all your ski needs at Edge Control. |
Before November 1978, there were no overnight ski repair shops on Jasper. That is, until Blair Timmins and Terry Harris came along and Edge Control was born. In the World's Smallest Ski Shop, no less.
"When Terry and I started this thing over 30 years ago, it was little more than a storage area in the Astoria Hotel," Timmins said.
"Edge Control was born out of a need this town had, so we weren't overly concerned about space. We took the only space we could find.
"We used to say that we had the world's smallest ski shop with the world's largest waiting room, as the D'ed Dog bar was right next door."
What began as an overnight tune-up and repair shop has evolved into a full-service, year-round ski shop that offers sales, service, and rentals. They only operated out of the "storage area" for one season, before moving to their current location at 626 Connaught Dr. But that one season created a revolution in Jasper, where before that people had to slave for hours over their own equipment or settle for round edges. A couple of poor snow years was all it took for people to realize the value of overnight tune-ups and repairs.
"We're committed to restoring skis and boards to factory or race-ready conditions. Actually, our work is better than factory standards, because when we restructure the base, we do it in such a way that its structure for use at Marmot Basin."

Edge Control provides rentals as well, from kids to performance to snowboards to cross-country to telemark to alpine touring.
Edge Control doesn't use "rental equipment;" half of their rentals are turned over every year, where most resorts turn over their rental equipment every three years, and Edge Control rentals have liners designed for fit, not for duration.
They carry Volkl, Dynastar, Head, Blizzard, K2 snowboards, Lange boots, Head boots, Technica boots, Spyder clothing, and Helly Hansen.
In addition to the tune-ups, repairs, rentals, and sales, Edge Control also affiliated with Walks and Talks Japser, a guided tour company that offers interpretive outings.
"We'll go to Maligne Canyon and cross four of the bridges to see the four frozen waterfalls to learn about the canyon and the story about it. Then we drive to Maligne lake for an intro snowshoe and cross-country outings."
