Doc Pow leaves today on invitation to Silicon Valley to meet with mentors from Facebook and other leading digital media experts
– June 7, 2011
EDMONTON, AB – SnowSeekers has been invited by the Canadian Government’s Consulate in the Silicon Valley to join 19 other companies; Canada’s most promising new media firms for “48 Hours in the Valley”. One of only three companies west of Toronto and the only company in Alberta, President Jim Barr will be spending the next 48 hours meeting with mentors, venture capitalists and to make a visit to Facebook’s HQ to strengthen its model and learn how it can bring even more value to its advertisers and sponsors.
“The event is produced by the Canadian Consulate and a group called the C100, all Canadian ex-pats who have made it big down in San Francisco and are now looking to give back, helping companies like us grow,” says Barr. This past winter SnowSeekers saw a 600% increase in its social media footprint, traffic to its website and users of their smartphone apps. “We experienced over 150,000 unique travellers who trusted SnowSeekers.ca, connected through social media or put our apps on their smartphones to help make their call on where to ski, stay, eat and enjoy what Alberta & BC has to offer. This next 48 hours is a brilliant opportunity to ensure this growth continues.”
The focus of the “48 Hours in the Valley” event is on advertising, monetization and social media; exploring ways to take existing platforms to their next level. “It’s an intense itinerary, but why not, we’ll be meeting with leading digital media experts, and for us at Seekers this is just the opportunity to take what we have and knock it out of the park.”
For the past year and a half, Seekers Media has been in residence at NAIT’s Duncan McNeill Centre for Innovation. NAIT is in full support of this mission south, sending along with Barr a writer and photographer from TechLife Magazine for a cover story coming out this fall.
