JASPER. ALTA. – In your entire life have you ever gone out for dinner and eaten a nine dollar steak? Let alone one that comes with sides of salad, fries, onion rings, and garlic toast. Well, on Sundays at the De'd Dog Bar & Grill that's exactly what you get. Couple it with happy hour and you have Jasper's best deal in town. Hands down.
The D'ed Dog offers great specials every night of the week, but Sunday's $9 Steak might be its best. |
This lively pub has become not just a locals' favourite, but that of Sean MacCarron, a brit on his third season in Jasper, and the founder of Marmot Basin's free-style, freeride snowboarding program Free Mountain.
"If I was to go down to the grocery store and pick myself up a steak of this size and quality, it would be 12 dollars, at least," MacCarron said. "And that's just the steak. At the Dog you get the steak plus the fries and onion rings and salad and garlic bread, and for cheaper, too. There's a reason I come here every week."
Always a great deal at The Dog
And he's not the only one. Sundays at the De'd Dog have become one of the locals' places to meet up and cool down after all the tourists and weekend warriors have come and gone. A great deal like this one is just the cherry on top of the sundae.
Located on the main floor of the Astoria Hotel, the De'd Dog offers pub food at its best. Whether it's Monday's Bowl O'Pasta, Tuesday's bison burger with fries, Friday's shrimp, or Saturday's Chef's Choice burger, there's always an amazing deal.
"There's no better bang for your buck when it comes to a meal in Jasper. It's not often you can eat for less money in a restaurant or a pub than you can in your own home, but that's what you get [at the De'd Dog]," said MacCarron.
"Not to mention it's a fantastic place to sit back and have a chat with your mates about your day on the hill over a glass of wine or a pint."

A killer après bar
No matter what ski town I roll into, the first place I head after a killer day on the mountain is the best pub to sit down, chill out, and watch sports. Thankfully, I discovered the De'd Dog on Superbowl Sunday, and watched my Green Bay Packers thump Big Ben and the Steelers from the comfort of a couch and a big screen.
Sports, steak, and beers. Does it get any better?
Only when it costs you nine bucks.
