Another weekend of mountain openings
SnowSeekers Staff
Marmot Basin opened with a nice base of 55cm at mid-mountain. For those in the know, that’s all you need to ski Marmot. It’s a true alpine hill that’s more alpine than rock. It also opened with six of its seven chairs and with close to 70% of its terrain ready for skiers and riders. Judging by the smiles on the faces below, it was one stellar day.
Marmot Basin upcoming event: The perfect festival to indulge in true mountain culture, Jasper in January runs Jan. 12 to Jan. 27
Tomorrow morning, it’s Pass Powderkeg and Sun Peaks turn to flip the switch on the lifts.
Canada’s second largest ski resort, Sun Peaks will be the first hill to open in B.C. and chairs start running at 9 a.m. And folks, lift tickets will be 50% off throughout the weekend. At the time of this writing, three of the resort’s chairs will be running and while that doesn’t sound like many, trust us, you will have plenty of terrain to ensure your legs get a workout.
Sun Peaks upcoming event: Indulge in food and wine at the Savour the Sun Festival, Dec. 7 to 9
If you haven’t been to Pass Powderkeg yet, make a point of it. It’s a sweet hill located in the Crowsnest Pass region and it’s been introducing folks to the thrill of skiing and riding for 80 years. One of the coolest things about Pass Powderkeg is its dedication to get everyone to try the alpine sports. The beginner lift and slope is free to anyone who would like to try skiing or riding. Yes. You read that right – free.
Last weekend, Nakiska, Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise and Sunshine Village all opened to stellar reviews. Here’s some screen grabs of posts from this week. Fresh snow and spring temperatures make for a fantastic start to the 2018/19 ski season.
