CALGARY, AB – Snow, and lots of it, is covering Sunshine Village, allowing the popular ski and snowboard resort to open its mini-terrain park.
88 cm has fallen between Nov. 22-28, and the resort already has a base of 108 cm. That makes for a banner start to the year.
After some testing last Tuesday, the mini-park officially opened this Wednesday, Nov. 23.
This year the mini-park is on Strawberry which "is good news," according to Senior Slope Supervisor Adam Towers. “Snowsnake will give beginners a better chance to try out the park. Before, it was typically only accessible by blue and black runs.”
Some of the features that are open:one 10-foot downrail; one 16-foot flatbox; one 24-foot downbox; flat downbox; two rainbows; two mailboxes; and MFM box. More features are expected to be added for the park, which should be around until at least January.
“It’s awesome on Strawberry; right underneath the lift-line, with really fast laps and you can see it right from the Village,” said Dean Hartlin, Terrain Park Groomer.
Hartlin said the mid-week snowfall is “great news; gives me a lot more to push around!”
